Mac and Cheese (Stovetop)

Mac and Cheese (Stovetop)

Published March 23, 2026

A classic, creamy stovetop mac and cheese made with a simple béchamel sauce and sharp cheddar cheese. This comforting dish is quick to prepare and delivers rich, velvety results without requiring a baking step.

Best served immediately for optimal creaminess; the sauce will thicken as it cools. Customize with additions such as crispy bacon, jalapeños, or panko breadcrumbs for texture.

For a lighter version, substitute half-and-half or evaporated milk for whole milk. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
