Gyudon (Japanese Beef Bowl)

Gyudon (Japanese Beef Bowl)

Updated November 4, 2026

Thin-sliced beef and onions in sweet soy broth over rice. Japanese fast food comfort.

Gyudon chains like Yoshinoya and Sukiya are everywhere in Japan. The dish is traditionally topped with raw egg or onsen tamago.

Benishoga (red pickled ginger) is the essential condiment. Can use any thinly sliced beef; ribeye or chuck work well.
